Almost 300 athletes competed in the first day of the Eastern Bay Energy Trust New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships at Ohope Beach today, with Omanu Surf Life Saving Club taking the overall day win in the Masters category. Congratulations to Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service in 2nd and Whakatane SLSC in 3rd.
The oldest competitor taking part in this events was 85 year old Sid Salek from Omanu who finished second in his age group for both the beach flags and beach sprint races.
Thanks to Simon Oldham for leading the Team, all our Athletes, managers Dell and Yvonne, our supporters, the officials, Surf Life Saving New Zealand and all the other clubs that made a great competition! Go Omanu!!
